The Drift Message

Don’t Ignore the Drift

Have you ever been swimming in the ocean and thought you were staying in one place, only to look up and realize you’ve drifted far from where you started? The waves can quietly move you without you even noticing.

The same can happen in our walk with God.

Hebrews 2:1 “We must pay the most careful attention… so that we do not drift away.”

Spiritual drift rarely happens all at once. It happens little by little. One missed prayer. One missed time in God’s Word. One missed Sunday. One distraction. Before you know it, you’re further away from God than you intended to be.

That’s why we must regularly examine ourselves.

2 Corinthians 13:5 “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith.”

Ask yourself this morning: What has my attention? Who has my attention? And where is my attention taking me?

Think about a car that is out of alignment. You may start by driving straight, but if the alignment isn’t corrected, the car will slowly pull in the wrong direction. Spiritual drift works the same way.

You can’t correct what you don’t notice.

The good news is that if you recognize you’ve drifted, you can adjust, correct, and realign.

Hebrews 12:2 tells us to fix our eyes on Jesus. When our eyes are on Him, we can get back on course.

You may have drifted, but you don’t have to stay there. Turn your attention back to Jesus, return to His Word, return to prayer, and return to the things that draw you closer to Him.

WTD: When you correct, you protect.

Today, don’t ignore the drift. Check your alignment, fix your eyes on Jesus, and get back on course.
