The Fruit Must Speak, Part 1

The fruit must speak

John 15:4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

Allow me to share this morning the importance of bearing fruit. Jesus opens John 15 by declaring, “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.” That statement immediately reminds us that not everything offering life is truly life-giving. In our faith walk, we must recognize the true vine and remain connected to it.

Some of us have unknowingly attached ourselves to a counterfeit vine. It may look good, feel right, and even produce results for a season, but eventually it leaves us empty. We find ourselves frustrated, spiritually dry, and wondering why there is no lasting fruit. The issue isn’t effort; it’s connection. Spiritual life can only flow through Jesus Christ. Anything else we rely on will eventually fail us.

Being connected to the wrong vine can show up in many ways. It can be unhealthy relationships, wrong soul ties, or voices we continue to listen to that pull us away from God’s truth. Sometimes the counterfeit vine is our own self-reliance, trusting our experience, our strength, or our plans while slowly drifting from dependence on Christ. When we draw from ourselves, we eventually run out. When we draw from Jesus, the supply never ends.

Jesus reminds us that fruitfulness is not about striving harder but about abiding deeper. When we stay connected to Him, the Father lovingly prunes what doesn’t belong so that we can bear more fruit. And that fruit is not just visible success, it is the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the marks of a life truly connected to the vine.

Today is an invitation to examine our connection. What vine are we drawing from? Who or what is shaping our decisions, our attitudes, and our desires? If we find ourselves attached to anything other than Christ, the good news is that we can reconnect. Jesus is always ready to receive us, restore us, and allow His life to flow through us again.

When we abide in the true vine, fruit is not forced; it is inevitable.
